2022 has been a year marked by the sudden military aggression against Ukraine which started in February 2022 and is still ongoing. In these difficult circumstances, members of the Intercultural Cities (ICC) Network have shown great solidarity and made additional efforts to address some of the most pressing needs in Ukraine as well as in Poland, where ICC member cities are directly confronted with welcoming people fleeing Ukraine.

Despite the emergency, solid intercultural work and innovation continued everywhere in Europe and beyond, and the ICC programme has been happy to accompany so many forward-looking municipalities and regions who work towards building inclusive, sustainable and democratic societies.

Released today, the ICC annual report presents the main events and activities organised last year, as well as the tools and methodologies developed to assist local and regional authorities worldwide in the design, implementation and review of intercultural policies based on the principles of real equality, valuing diversity, fostering meaningful intercultural interaction and fostering active citizenship and participation.

A few figures for the past year:

• 8 new ICC members;
• 1 new national network set up in Australia;
• 5 new regional networks set up in Cyprus districts;
• 9 assessment reports produced based on the ICC Index;
• 5 new policy briefs delivered;
• 4 inter-city projects implemented;
• 5 thematic peer-to-peer events carried out;
• 1 new pilot online course on systemic discrimination;
• 17 videos sent by our cities to mark World refugee day 2022;
• 40 interviews carried out in the frame of the independent evaluation of the ICC programme services and tools;
• 86 news articles published;
• 4 editions of the newsletter;
• 93 good practices collected and shared;
• 147.000 website visits.
