First expert visit to Viseu

On 23 and 24 May, the Intercultural cities programme will carry out the first expert visit to Viseu, a municipality in the Centro Region of Portugal, counting about 100 000 inhabitants, 24% of whom with an origin different from Portuguese.

A representative of the Council of Europe and an independent expert will meet with representatives of the local authorities, the deputy mayor, as well as local stakeholders. The discussion will focus on the cities’ INDEX results, their achievements and needs in relation to intercultural policies and governance. Time will be devoted to on-site visits to different schools and intercultural initiatives, as well as to discuss the anti-rumours project run in Viseu in 2016.

The visit will result in the “intercultural profile” of the city which will be the basis of subsequent work.
