Youth workers and teachers from all regions of Ukraine took part in the training course “Using Compass in formal and non-formal education” from 20 to 24 July 2023 in Slavsko, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.

This Compass national training course on human rights education was organised by the Donetsk Youth Debate Center in partnership with the Center for Educational Initiatives, and in cooperation with the Council of Europe Youth Department and the European Wergeland Centre. The Council of Europe project “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III” provided expert support for this activity. The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine were partners of the training course.

During the training course, 30 practitioners gained the necessary competences to conduct education for democratic citizenship and human rights education activities (EDC/HRE) in their communities in formal, non-formal and informal educational settings based on the Compass approach.

The national training course particularly emphasized the cooperation between various stakeholders in EDC/HRE aiming at making human rights education and Compass available to young people in schools youth centres, open spaces, activities of civil society.

 Participants planned future actions and learn about the educational and financial opportunities provided by the Council of Europe Youth Department, notably the Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III project and the European Youth Foundation special call to support young people from Ukraine.

 The Compass Training Courses are the integral part of the Human Rights Education Youth Programme  and play a central role in the implementation of the Council of Europe 2030 Strategy of the youth sector.
