Drafting Committee on Migrant Women (GEC-MIG)
Building on the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2023 and its Strategic Objective 5 “Protect the rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls”, the Drafting Committee on Migrant Women (GEC-MIG), a subordinate body to the Gender Equality Commission (GEC), was tasked by the Committee of Ministers to draft a Recommendation on migrant and refugee women on the basis of Recommendation Rec(79)10 concerning women migrants and of an analysis of needs and gaps that need to be addressed. GEC-MIG is composed of representatives of 8 member states (Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Serbia, Slovak Republic) whose expenses are borne by the Council of Europe. All member states may send additional representatives, without defrayal of expenses, to the meetings of the Drafting Committee. Two meetings are foreseen each year of the GEC-MIG mandate (2020-2021).
