Exchange with Irish authorities on the application of the European Code of Social Security by Ireland

The Department of Social Rights of the Council of Europe organised, in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), a meeting with the Department of Social Protection of Ireland on 22 February 2024 in Dublin. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the application of the European Code of Social Security by Ireland and possible ways forward to meet conformity with the Code’s requirements in relation to the length of qualifying period for entitlement of unemployment and sickness benefits.

The meeting provided a good opportunity to present the requirements of the European Code of Social Security with regard to unemployment and sickness benefits, to present some good practices from other European countries and also to understand the Irish context concerning unemployment and sickness benefits.

Ireland must submit its next report on the application of the European Code of Social Security by 31 July 2024.
