The President of the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), Aoife Nolan, held an exchange of views with the European Committee Against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).
Ms Nolan provided an overview of the ECSR's work and its interconnection with of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI). She focused in particular on the extensive case law relating to discrimination against ethnic and racialised minorities, especially Roma and Travellers, in areas such as housing, healthcare, education and institutionalisation.
The ECSR President emphasised that the work of ECRI and equality bodies will remain a key resource for the ECSR as it engages increasingly with multiple discrimination and intersectionality. Similarly, ECSR case law should continue to be a reference point for ECRI in both country reports and general policy recommendations.
Finally the ECSR President encouraged ECRI to promote the acceptance of the European Social Charter Collective Complaints procedure as a fundamental avenue for justice to address concrete situations giving rise to racism, intolerance and inequality.
