European Parliament’s Conference on Social Rights in the EU and the European Social Charter

The European United Left / Nordic Green Left Group of the European Parliament is organising a Conference on the implementation of social rights in the EU and the European Social Charter. The event will take place in Brussels on 8 March 2017, from 3.00 to 6.00 pm. at the European Parliament building (ASP 1G2).

According to the programme (see below), Panel I will focus on national experiences and discuss possible conflicting legal obligations based on EU law and the European Social Charter. Panel II will explore the relationship between EU Treaties and the Social Charter, focusing inter alia on the possibility that the European Union accede to this Council of Europe’s treaty.  

The Conference will be opened by MEP Paloma Lopez. Moderation and conclusions will be proposed by MEPs Barbara Spinelli and Dennis de Jong. Ms Karin Lukas, Vice-president of the European Committee of Social Rights of the Council of Europe and Mr Jean-Michel Belorgey, Former President of the same Committee will contribute to the discussion.
