Context

The "Ecomuseum of Salt and Sea” in Cervia was born to preserve the beauty of natural and urban landscape, our culture and our memory.

Considering how many tourists visit Cervia every year, the Ecomuseum represents both citizens' and guests' common heritage. It is an opportunity to get to know an ever-changing territory, a city- wide museum, a way to preserve and promote human and natural landscape, a chance of development for the community.
What sets our Ecomuseum apart from the others are the Facilitators. They are volunteers and key figures to the Ecomuseum who set up a cultural association which organises Heritage Walks around the city.

Description of Activity

The Heritage Walks aim to make citizens and guests more conscious of what living in this place means, but also to bring out how the people in our community relate to their own cultural heritage. Ecomuseum Facilitators will lead the Heritage Walks bringing their experience to the table and using the landscape maps they created as a tool to offer new insights about the city to the participants.
Those who take part in this experience will walk through Cervia cultural heritage and hear stories from people – our so-called “witnesses” – who have much to say about the city, either because they have always lived here, or because they run a business in Cervia, or simply because they feel particularly attached to this place. This way, citizens will develop a greater sense of belonging to their own territory, and guests will attain deeper knowledge of the city.
The Ecomuseum is a participative path for a sustainable development of the territory through its tangible and intangible heritage. The main character is the community: their identity values, traditions, and experiences are the very soul of the Ecomuseum of Salt and Sea.  Some of the walks include

Heritage Walk in the Historical Centre
It is an opportunity to find out more about Cervia Historical Centre: this walk will revolve around the quadrilateral, the factory-city, and the salt storehouses. Workers, artists, merchants will show up and tell stories about their activities in the historical centre.

Heritage Walk in the Borgomarina
Stories about the sea from the past and the present. This Heritage Walk is to be considered as a true landscape map, as it aims to tell the story of simple people, the sailors and their families, who have been challenging many difficulties for years.
