The Council of Europe, in co-operation with the University of Málaga and City Hall of Málaga, organised an International Conference on Terrorism and Organised Crime, which took place on 25 - 26 September 2014 in Málaga, Spain.

The Conference brought together government experts and policy-makers responsible for combating terrorism and organised crime, as well as representatives of international organisations and academic experts, to share their experience and insights regarding similarities and links between terrorism and other forms of serious organised crime.

The aim of the Conference was to identify best practices from the fight against terrorism and organised crime and to explore the potential for the comprehensive approach in policy-making in these areas.

Topics discussed at the Conference:

  • similarities and links between terrorism and other forms of serious crime;
  • financing of terrorism;
  • role of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty in combating terrorism and organised crime;
  • radicalisation and recruitment for terrorism and organised crime.
