In an ongoing effort to enhance Armenia's Probation Service, the Council of Europe organised a Training of Trainers session on 7-8 June 2024 in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia. Attended by participants from the Probation Service of Armenia and the Centre for the Implementation of Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes, the training focused on the implementation of alternatives to deprivation of liberty such as house arrest, administrative supervision, and restriction of liberty from both national and international perspectives.
Drawing upon the guidelines developed by Council of Europe consultants, the participants received comprehensive briefings on key topics. These sessions covered the practical applications and challenges of implementing alternative measures to detention in Armenia today. By engaging in discussions and interactive exercises, the participants honed their training skills and worked in pairs to develop and present lesson plans. Simulation sessions incorporated role plays and exercises to facilitate a better understanding and application of knowledge. Detailed feedback after each simulated session enabled the participants to refine their approaches and further improve their skills as trainers.
Following this event, a cascade training for probation officers will be launched. This initiative is a further step to modernising Armenia’s probation services with the aim to reduce reoffending rates and enhance public safety.
This event is part of the Council of Europe’s support within the framework of the Project “Strengthening the Probation Service in Armenia”. The Project is financed within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2023-2026 and implemented by the Council of Europe.
