Focusing on rehabilitation programmes for probationers struggling with addictions

In a collaborative effort to confront pressing challenges surrounding the implementation of rehabilitation programmes for probationers suffering from addictions, stakeholders from different sectors gathered at a workshop organised by the Council of Europe in Yerevan on March 7, 2024.

The workshop served as a platform to present the outcomes of assessment meetings with relevant stakeholders aiming to identify specific needs in relation to the rehabilitation programmes for different types of addiction. Emphasizing the critical connection between addressing substance abuse among ex-offenders and mitigating recidivism rates, participants underscored the urgent need for innovative solutions.

At the forefront of the discussions was a challenging task faced by the Probation Services in implementing rehabilitation initiatives tailored to individuals living with addictions to drugs, alcohol or gambling. During the feedback session, the participants contributed with their insights and experiences from the respective fields, underscoring the crucial role of collaboration between the Probation Service, healthcare providers, and community organisations in confronting addiction-related challenges. The discussion was also enriched by the experiences of other countries. The outcomes of the meeting will be used to finalise the recommendations with regards to future rehabilitative programmes for the probationers.

This event is part of the Council of Europe’s support within the framework of the Project “Strengthening the Probation Service in Armenia”. The Project is financed within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2023-2026 and implemented by the Council of Europe.
