With the support of the Council of Europe, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) conducted eight informative meetings with the local population and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in four regions of Georgia. These meetings were organized on 13th and 14th July, and between 27th July and 1st August, in Kakheti, Adjara, Samegrelo, and Imereti regions, at eight different locations.

The primary objective of these meetings was to raise awareness among the local population in the regions about the mandate and role of the SIS, thereby ensuring better outreach of the service and enhancing the protection of human rights against alleged ill-treatment. Throughout the meetings, the SIS managers delivered relevant information to the attendees regarding the institution's mandate and the various methods available for contacting the SIS, including a dedicated hot line. To support these interactions, visibility items such as well-designed information leaflets were distributed among the attendees of the meetings.

This activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia” (HRCPG) which is designed to address the issues related to effective policing in line with human rights standards, the rights of detained persons and their treatment by police, the treatment of juvenile victims and offenders as well as effective investigation into alleged ill-treatment by police and effective remedies against police misconduct.
