On 11 May 2019, the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau participates in the European Day festivities in the central park Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau. Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the European Village aims to bring European values closer to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
This year the Council of Europe project on Protecting children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse reaches out especially to children and their families to mark both the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe celebrated in 2019. A wealth of awareness raising materials and games will be distributed and organised to promote the rights of the child for the Moldovan public. Information on the cooperation and assistance of the Council of Europe to the Republic of Moldova will also be shared at the event.
The European Day commemorates Robert Schuman's statement calling on France, Germany and other European countries to share their coal and steel production, thus laying the foundation stone of a European federation. It was first celebrated in the Republic of Moldova for in 2006. As of 2009, the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova invites the general public to join the celebration of Europe Day in a grand event.
