The Republic of Moldova became the 36th member state of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995. Lilia Snegureac, Former Director of the Council of Europe Information Office: "Two years after the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe, the Council of Europe Information Office in Moldova was opened. Therefore, the main objective, at that time, was to bring Europe into the homes of citizens, by organising seminars with the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova, involving non-governmental organisations that were in the emerging stage at the time, by organising activities in collaboration with the media, organising various activities and meetings between civil society representatives and representatives of the Council of Europe ".
