Legal professionals (50 persons), judges, prosecutors, and staff from judicial institutions of the Republic of Moldova, were trained on the latest European and Council of Europe standards and on the European Court of Human Rights case law on discrimination on religious, ethnic, sexual and linguistic grounds.
The local context and the efficiency of legal remedies against discrimination of minorities in the Republic of Moldova were presented and discussed, focusing on better standards of protection in line with the relevant European practice. Along with this, participants were updated on the newest legal developments, and took part in practical exercises on antisemitism cases, discrimination based on sexual orientation, and on religious grounds, exchanging on ways to improve the redress measures for the most vulnerable segments of the society in the country.
In the end, participants of this event, organised in partnership with the National Institute of Justice, agreed on the need to properly address institutional challenges and take further steps to improve practices in this field by maintaining an open dialogue between law enforcement actors.
