The training sessions organised by the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău, in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice, enabled Moldovan judges and prosecutors to deepen their understanding of the EU legal framework through a strong focus on practical application and peer exchange. Participants strengthened their knowledge of the EU acquis, the role and case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, and European rule of law standards, with particular attention to how these are applied in judicial practice.

A key added value of the training was the practical discussion of Romania’s experience in applying EU law following accession. Through concrete examples and case-based discussions, participants explored how EU principles are integrated into national judicial systems, the challenges encountered during the accession process, and the role of judges and prosecutors in ensuring consistent application of EU law. This comparative perspective allowed participants to reflect on similarities with the Moldovan context and identify practical lessons relevant to their own work.

The training sessions, which took place from 8 to 12 December, were joined by a total of 160 judges and prosecutors, including 83 men and 77 women. They were organised in the framework of the NIJ’s continuous training curricula modules for practising judges and prosecutors. 

The trainings were organised within the framework of the Joint Project of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Support to the Justice Reform in the Republic of Moldova".
