In a continued effort to promote transparency and accountability, throughout 20th and 28th of November, the Council of Europe in cooperation with the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova, organised a series of training sessions aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of central public authorities, government agencies, prosecutor’s offices and courts on the implementation of the Law on Access to Information of Public Interest, which was adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on June 9, 2023, and came into force in January 2024, thus aligning the national legal framework to Council of Europe and international standards on access to information.
The training focused on ensuring that central public authorities, government agencies, prosecutor’s offices and courts can effectively and consistently apply the legal framework to assure public’s right to access information of public interest.
Over 400 participants from 370 central public authorities, government agencies, prosecutor’s offices and courts attended the sessions, which were specifically designed for civil servants responsible for receiving, processing, monitoring, and reporting on public information requests. The sessions provided step-by-step guidance on the transparency obligations set forth in the law, offering valuable insights into how public authorities can comply with its provisions.
Key topics covered during the training included detailed procedures for handling public information requests, mechanisms for overseeing compliance with transparency obligations, the application of sanctions in cases of violations of the right to information.
The training sessions were organized in the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Advancing media freedom in the Republic of Moldova (2025–2028)”.
