The Council of Europe organised its first planning meeting of the steering committee for the project on Protecting children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in the Republic of Moldova on 23 January 2019 in Chisinau.
In his welcoming remarks, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Dorian Purice, reaffirmed his support to work alongside the Council of Europe and underlined that more targeted efforts are needed especially to prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse. The meeting succeeded in bringing together all implementing partners across sectors and the project workplan of proposed activities for 2019 was agreed.
The project aims at supporting the Republic of Moldova to effectively implement the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse (the Lanzarote Convention), strengthen the state response towards child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse and promote child-friendly practices especially for the judiciary.
The project implementing partners are: Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, General Prosecution Office, National Council for the Protection of Child's Rights, Ombudsperson for children’s rights and National Institute of Justice. La Strada and CNPAC participated as civil society observers to the meeting.
The project implementation period is 15 months from 15 October 2018 to 14 January 2019.
