2nd edition of the Prize 
"Junior Crystal Scales of Justice" 
Edition 2022 

 

The Crystal Scales of Justice Prize is a European Prize to promote innovative practices contributing to the efficiency of justice, organised jointly by the CEPEJ and the Faculty of Law of Strasbourg

 

Competition open to students enrolled, for the current year, in Master or equivalent diploma from a Faculty of Law of a Council of Europe member State or an observer country to the CEPEJ*.
* Canada, United States, Guatemala, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Morocco, Holy See, Tunisia.

This Prize, organised jointly by the CEPEJ and the Faculty of Law of Strasbourg, complements the existing Crystal Scales of Justice Prize. It is open to Master's students from law schools in one of the member States of the Council of Europe or an observer country to the CEPEJ and is organised every two years, alternating with the existing Crystal Scales of Justice Prize. For 2022 edition, the student teams had to defend one of the winning projects of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize 2021.

They had to highlight the innovative aspects of the project through a legal analysis and research work and study its possible transposition to another context or another country.

The deadline for the submission of applications for the Junior Crystal Scales of Justice Prize was 20 November 2021. The deadline for the submission of the complete files containing a legal analysis of a winning project of the 2021 Crystal Scales of Justice Prize, a research paper on the possible implementation of the winning project in other contexts or countries and a summary of the file submitted was 1st April 2022

The award ceremony of the Junior Crystal Scales of Justice Prize took place during the CEPEJ plenary meeting in June 2022. The winning team was invited to attend to present their project in front of the CEPEJ member States and numerous observers.

The CEPEJ awarded the 2nd edition of the Junior Crystal Scales Prize

The Jury of the second Junior Edition of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize met on 14 June 2022 and awarded this Prize to the team from the Faculty of Law of University of Pisa (Italy) led by Mrs Favaro (link for the project's summary and its appendix) who defended the French project, winner of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize "Simplified filing of complaints in hospital for victims of domestic violence" [Explanation]

The Jury also decided to award a special mention to another team from the Faculty of Law of University of Pisa (Italy) led by Mr Borgia (link to the project's summary and its appendix) who defended the Danish project of a “virtual quiz called "Courtbattle" and specific learning websites created for primary and secondary schools and high schools consisting of different thematic modules including a mock trial session »

The Jury was composed by :

  • Martina Vrdoljak, Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, Croatia;
  • Hannah Brodersen, University of Neufchatel, Switzerland;
  • Simone Kress, Vice President of the Regional Court of Cologne, Germany;
  • Martin Plissonnier, University of Paris-Nanterre, France.

The Junior Edition of the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize complements the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize, a European prize for innovative practices contributing to the efficiency and quality of justice. After having put together a research and legal analysis file, highlighting the innovative aspects of one of the awarded projects of the CEPEJ Crystal Scales of Justice Prize and studying its possible transposition in another context, the shortlisted candidate teams were invited to defend their case orally before the Jury by videoconference.
