Back Eradication and trade of the American Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)

Following Recommendation No. 78 (1999) on the conservation of the red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) in Italy and Recommendation No. 114 (2005) on the control of the grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) and other alien squirrels in Europe asking Italy to start without delay an eradication programme, in 2007, the Standing Committee asked the Bureau to examine the possibility of opening a file for a possible breach of the Convention by Italy on this case. A case-file was opened in 2008.
