Alleged habitat destruction in the Osokorky Meadows Reserve due to proposed transportation network constructions

This complaint was submitted in 2025 by the NGO Ecopark Osokorky and alleges a threat to the Osokorky Meadows landscape reserve, located in Kyiv, Ukraine, due to proposed transportation network construction. The species to be affected are listed under Annexes I and II of the Bern Convention and include plants, birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. Migratory birds use this area as a resting and feeding site during seasonal migrations.

The planned large-scale construction would result in habitat destruction and fragmentation, threatening biodiversity both within the Osokorky Meadows and across the entire left-bank floodplain of the Dnipro River near Kyiv, covering around 2,000 ha.

To defend the area against further development, allegedly preceded by no Environmental Impact Assessment, the Complainants participate in court proceedings initiated by the development company to revoke the reserve’s status.
