Some 34 representatives of government agencies, public bodies and civil society took part in a round-table meeting on 17 September 2026 to discuss the steps taken by San Marino to implement the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, on the basis of the third evaluation report issued by the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and the related Committee of the Parties’ recommendation.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Mr Luca Beccari, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Digital Transition highlighted the ongoing preparation of San Marino’s first national anti-trafficking strategy. An opening statement was also made by Mr Stefano Canti, Minister of Justice, Welfare and Family, who reaffirmed San Marino’s commitment to implementing the Convention and ensuring that victims of trafficking are identified as such and protected.

Participants discussed the preparation of the national strategy and measures to improve the identification and protection of victims of trafficking, train relevant professionals, and combat trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation.

San Marino is expected to report to the Committee of the Parties to the Convention on the measures taken to comply with its recommendation by 29 November 2026.

The meeting was co-organised by the Anti-Trafficking Division of the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Digital Transition of the Republic of San Marino.
