Turkish Judges and Prosecutors Received In-Service Training on Reasoning of Judgments and Right to Liberty and Security

Approximately 130 judges and prosecutors enhanced their knowledge on reasoning of criminal judgments and right to liberty and security through an in-service training activity in Diyarbakır, organised on 25-26 November 2022.

In her opening remarks, Ms Pınar Başpınar, as Acting Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara, stated that “We all recognise that a well-reasoned decision has great significance in preventing arbitrariness and securing the right to liberty and security of an individual. It is also crucial in relation to the overall fairness of proceedings and enhances public trust towards the judiciary”.

In his address, Mr Muhittin Özdemir, the President of the Justice Academy of Türkiye stated that the “goal is to train judges and prosecutors who are impartial, independent, bound to the law and human rights, who decide with their free conscience, who adopt the principles of professional ethics, and who can respond to the justice needs of the society. For this purpose, the practice-based and interactive education model constitutes the basis of the Academy's training activities”.

This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations”.
