The first preparatory meeting of the Mediation and Arbitration Component under the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution in Turkey” was held online on 08 September 2021 with the participation of the Directorate General for Legal Affairs (DGLA) of the Ministry of Justice, the Council of Europe project team, and national and international consultants.
In the meeting, the team of consultants who will support the Needs Analysis activities within the scope of the Mediation and Arbitration component of the project were introduced. Moreover, information was given on the scope of the activities, the workplan and the division of labour. The meeting provided the opportunity for the beneficiary institution and consultants to come together and share their expectations regarding the activities to be carried out within the scope of the needs assessment.
A detailed needs assessment analysis and expert review of legislation, review of European best practices and other international models will support the legislative reform, to develop and implement effective models in mediation in Turkey. Within the scope of the activity, desk research and analysis will be carried out and field assessment visits and meetings, a roundtable meeting and workshop will be held.
The Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey – Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs are the end beneficiaries of the Project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority.
