The Project “Strengthening the Communities Association of Armenia and Transparent, Participatory Local Governance in Armenia" continues the support to the Communities Association of Armenia (CAA) in order to increase the advocacy capacity of the Association leading to becoming an active stakeholder of the local government system of Armenia. The project contributes to building the capacities of the Association to ensure that it is a well-functioning institution with improved financial and human resource management providing high-quality services to its members. In addition, the project promotes the establishment of a regular and effective consultation mechanism between local authorities, their national association, and the national authorities, thereby contributing to genuine decentralisation.

The project builds upon the results of Congress activities carried out in Armenia during the implementation of the project “Institutional Support to the Communities Association of Armenia” (2014-2019).

This thematic area directly contributes to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions) and 17 (Partnership for the goals).

The Communities Association of Armenia (CAA) was established in 1997 and since the introduction of the local self-government system in Armenia, it has played a strategic role in promoting the development of local democracy. It is a joint and representative voice of its members, Armenian local authorities, and is one of the key project partners. The following promotional materials present the Association’s mission, strategic goals, internal structures and the way the Association contributes to the advancement of local democracy and self-governance in Armenia.
