An 11-member delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will carry out an election observation mission from 11 to 14 September 2026, to observe the local and regional elections taking place on 13 September 2026 in Sweden. On election day, teams will be deployed throughout the country, to observe the election procedures in polling stations.

The delegation will meet with the Minister of Public Administration, the President of the Stockholm City Council, representatives of the Swedish Election Authority and the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency, the Swedish Psychological Defence Authority, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) and the Swedish delegation to the Congress, as well as the diplomatic corps from countries represented within the Congress delegation, domestic and international non-governmental organisations, and the media. It will hold briefings with representatives and candidates of political parties participating in the elections.

A statement of preliminary conclusions will be published on the Congress website in the afternoon of 14 September 2026.
