FEANTSA and Housing Rights Watch are hosting  a Seminar in Budapest on housing rights in Hungary

[12/04/2013] In order to help build alliances within Hungary and demonstrate solidarity from across Europe, on 12 April 2013, FEANTSA and HRW, along with partners in Hungary, are hosting a seminar in Budapest to bring allies together to consider legal and political strategies for assisting the homeless.  Article 31 of the European Social Charter protects the right to housing as a fundamental social human right.  Mr Régis Brillat, Head of the Department of the European Social Charter is participating in this conference.

Immigration, a source of wealth and duties for Europe, a conference organised by the ESC and the Council of Europe, Brussels (Belgium)

[04/03/2013] The Council of Europe, the EU's European Economic and Social Committee and France's Economic, Social and Environmental Council have organised a conference entiled "Immigration, a source of wealth and duties for Europe" to be held in Brussels on 15 March 2013. This conference will aim to mobilise all stakeholders against the development of prejudices by focusing on good practices in managing immigration and to produce proposals for national and European policy-makers. Mr. Luis Jimena Quesada, President of the European Committee of Social Rights participated in this conference.

The first conference organised by the Council of Europe and the EESC "The European Social Charter: 50 years on, what next", was one of the main events organised in the context of the 50th anniversary of the European, in September 2011. 7 March 2013 Helsinki, Finland A seminar on the collective complaint mechanism, orgnaised in cooperation with the Finnish Human Rights Centre, was held in Helsinki on 7 March 2013. Programme
1 March 2013 Strasbourg, France A conference entitled "Poverty and Inequality in Societies of Human Rights, the paradox of democracies", organised by the Council of Europe in partnership with the European Commission, was held in Strasbourg from 21 to 22 February 2013. Mr Luis Jimena Quesada, President of the European Committee of Social Rights participated in this conference.
On the occasion of this conference, Mr. Quesada met with Magdalena Sepúlveda, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty, and discussed, inter alia, the Guiding Principles on extreme poverty and human rights. The Principles respond to the significant social, cultural, economic and structural obstacles that people living in poverty face, which prevent them from enjoying their rights.

8 February 2013 Strasbourg, France A colloquy entitled «Conseil de l’Europe et OIT, deux institutions au service de la justice sociale - Mise en œuvre et influence des normes en Europe et en France » (the Council of Europe and ILO, two institutions working to achieve social justice -- the application of normes in Europe and France and their impact), took place on 8 February 2013 in Strasbourg, in the hemicycle of the Maison de la Région Alsace. The aim of the colloquy was to examine the supervisory mechanisms which ensure the application of the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and of the European Social Charter, and the challenges they face in a world characterised both by a high level of international competition and an extremely serious economic and social crisis. This scientific event, which was held in the framework of the Third Day of European and Community social law of the Laboratoire de droit social de l’Université de Strasbourg,was organised in cooperation with the Association française de l’OIT. Seminar in Budapest on the European Social Charter

A seminar on the European Social Charter was held in Budapest (Hungary) on 30 January 2013 with the aim of ensuring a wider application of the Charter in Hungary. Among the partipants in this Seminar were Ms. Monika Schlachter, Vice-President of the of the European Committee of Social Rights, Mr. Joszef Hajdu, member, and Mrs. Csilla Kollonay-Lehoczky, former member, as well as Mr. Régis Brillat, Head of the Department of the European Social Charter, and Mr. Henrik Kristensen, Deputy Head.

Award ceremony for the winner of the 4th edition of the International Focus Programme (IFP) essay competition on the right to health

An award ceremony for the winner of the 4th edition of the International Focus Programme (IFP) essay competition on the right to health was held in the main entrance of the Agora on 23 January 2013. On this occasion, Mr. Luis Jimena Quesada, President of the European Committee of Social Rights, and the winner, Mr. Alejandro José Zamora Perez, both presented allocutions.

Academic Conference on the European Social Charter in Milan, Italy

[08/01/2013] An academic conference on “The Charter and the Protection of Social Rights” was held in Milan, Italy on 18 January 2013. This Conference was organised by the University of Milan (Università degli studi di Milano), in cooperation with the Department of the European Social Charter and the Academic Network on the European Social Charter. Presentations of the Charter and its control mechanisms were made by Mr Giuseppe Palmisano, member of the European Committee of Social Rights, Mr Régis Brillat, Head of the Department of the European Social Charter and Mr Riccardo Priore, lawyer in the Department.
