GRECO’s 10th Anniversary Conference (Strasbourg, 5
October 2009) and 44th Plenary Meeting (6-8 October 2009)
[Strasbourg,
12/10/09] - GRECO celebrated its first ten years of
existence
On 5 October 2009, the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) celebrated
its 10th Anniversary with a High-level Conference which brought together a
large number of Ministers and Secretaries of State as well as
representatives from its 46 member States, several non-member States,
international organisations and civil society.
Numerous speakers highlighted the need for enhanced
cooperation among all international stakeholders in the fight against
corruption with a view to avoiding duplication and promoting synergies.

A message to the United Nations
GRECO agreed to send a message offering its support, and willingness to
cooperate to the Third Session of the Conference of States Parties to the
United Nations Convention against Corruption (Doha, Qatar, 9 – 13 November
2009).
Examination of reports
The Plenary examined and adopted the Third Round Evaluation Report on Malta
(the publication of which is pending authorisation by the Maltese
authorities), as well as the addenda to the Second Round Compliance Reports
on Albania, Croatia, Netherlands, Spain and “the former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia”.
Tour de table on corruption and sport
GRECO held a tour de table on corruption in sport, with the participation of
a keynote speaker, Mr Wolfgang MAENNIG, Professor, Chair of Economic Policy,
Hamburg University and Mr Stanislas FROSSARD, Executive Secretary of the
Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) – Council of Europe.
Forthcoming meetings
GRECO’s Bureau will hold its next meeting in Strasbourg, on 2 November 2009
and the next Plenary Meeting will take place from 30 November to 4 December
2009.
