25 June 2014 Council of Europe’s Anti-corruption Group calls on Croatia to raise public confidence in judiciary and bolster anti-corruption measures in parliament - In a report published today, the Council of Europe anti-Corruption Group (GRECO) gives credit to the efforts made by Croatia to fight corruption in public life. However, despite the many encouraging steps taken, Croatian citizens’ trust in their key institutions remains low. This negative perception is particularly troublesome with respect to the judiciary and politicians. (more...

19 June 2014 In its annual report, published today, the Council of Europe´s anti-corruption monitoring group GRECO expresses concern about the little progress made by a significant number of European countries in implementing its recommendations on transparency of political funding.
In the report, GRECO partly attributes this situation to the political sensitivity of party and campaign funding, and to the fact that, by evaluating states in this field, GRECO´s monitoring has extended to areas beyond direct governmental control and under the influence of political parties and parliaments themselves. Drago KOS (Slovenia), GRECO’s President since 2002, left this important function on the day of election of a new President, Vice-President and Bureau at GRECO’s 53rd plenary meeting (5-9 December). Mr Kos’ outstanding services to the Council of Europe and GRECO were honoured with the Organisation’s Pro Merito Medal presented to him by Deputy Secretary General Maud DE BOER-BUQUICCHIO. (more...)
