Joint Council of Europe and European Commission Press Conference on the 2008 European Heritage Days

On the occasion of the 2008 annual European Heritage Days, a joint Council of Europe and European Commission Press Conference took place in Brussels, on Thursday 25 September 2008 at 11.30 hours.
The press conference provided an opportunity to present the European dimension of the European Heritage Days programme to the international press in Brussels. Mr Jan Figel’, Member of the European Commission responsible for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, and Ms Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Director General – Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe, introduced the programme and the role of the two institutions in its implementation at European level.
The Director of the King Baudouin Foundation, Mr Guido Knops, on behalf of Belgium, linked the 20th Anniversary of the European Heritage Days in Belgium with the First European Heritage Forum on “Heritage and Dialogue” which then took place in Brussels, on 23-24 October 2008.
Following these introductions, three case studies were presented by speakers from Estonia, France and the United Kingdom on the following themes:
An example of the use of industrial heritage in Estonia

Cultural heritage and young offenders
by Mr Serge Grappin, Educational Advisor in the Maison du Patrimoine,
Saint Romain, France;
Cultural Heritage and ethnic minorities
