MEDIANE - Media in Europe for Diversity Inclusiveness

European and thematic Encounters

encountersThe MEDIANE project plans to organise 3 European Media Encounters and 7 Sub-regional Thematic Media Encounters (covering journalism training, media production and editorial management issues) in relation to diversity and non discrimination inclusiveness in professional practices. These encounters aim at stimulating exchanges between media people on their professional practices with a view to strengthening and developing their diversity inclusiveness in media content production. Each encounter will have to produce concrete tools and ways for strengthening and developing diversity and non discrimination inclusiveness in the 3 main working areas of MEDIANE: training, production and management.

3 European Media Encounters

The three European encounters will aim at fostering exchanges of practices in order to allow each participant to share his/her own experience, to contribute to the definition of diversity inclusiveness criteria in the fields of journalism training, media production and editorial management.

The main principles of these European encounters will be to mix participants' profiles from training, production and management areas and to allow them, by working on new or existing tools and resources, to define inclusiveness principles of diversity and non discrimination and to give them practical outlines for journalism training tools, media content production and editorial management.

The first encounter, which is foreseen to take place in Cyprus in June 2013, will aim at introducing the MEDIANE diversity and non discrimination inclusiveness approach to trainers, media content producers and media managers. After this first encounter, participants will be invited to test diversity and non discrimination inclusiveness in their own area of competencies. Then, the second European media encounter will analyse the results of the testing period of diversity inclusiveness in journalism training, media production and editorial management. This second encounter will contribute to the definition of useful criteria on diversity inclusiveness to be introduced in the Media Index.

The third European encounter will focus on the Media Index. Each European encounter will take place over a 2-day period and involve 65 participants.

7 Thematic encounters

This series of encounters will allow participants belonging to the same professional area (training, production and management) to deepen their understanding and abilities so as to include diversity and non discrimination in their proper fields of competencies and expertises.

Two of these encounters will be organised on journalism & media training & literacy issues and will focus on producing, or updating existing training tools in order to allow them to include diversity and non discrimination as ongoing angles of media coverage.

Three other encounters will focus on media content design and production issues and will focus on defining the conditions for media content production to be inclusive in terms of diversity and non discrimination.

Finally, a set of two encounters will be organised on editorial management issues and will focus on conceiving guidelines for management to be inclusive in terms of diversity and non discrimination. Each of these encounters will take place over a 2-day period and involve 40 participants.
