The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe "on the move" in Brussels during the
European Tourism Day 2010
Brussels (Charlemagne Building – Room GASP), 27
September 2010
The 2010 European Tourism Day event, entitled "The role of Cultural Heritage in the renewed European tourism policy",
was held on 27 September 2010, on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Leader projects, local and regional authorities, universities and other actors involved in tourism participated to the event, that
was mainly devoted to the promotion and valorisation of European citizenship and cultural and historical heritage.
This year, a special focus was given to
"European Cultural Routes",
in line with new communication of the European
Commission "Europe, the world's No 1 tourist destination
– a new political framework for tourism in Europe"
adopted on the 30th June 2010, where the need of
promoting cultural itineraries is specifically
mentioned.
In this Communication, the cultural routes Programme is indicated as an interesting model as it promotes a sustainable and qualitative touristic offer but also to discover a cultural heritage shared by several European states.
During the lunch break, there was
the inauguration of the exhibition "Europe on the move :
Vie Francigene and the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe", at the Berlaymont-Piazza.
