08.09.2011 - The
Council of Europe and the Venice Biennale are organising
a public debate on the issue of sexual violence against
children in the context of the Venice Film Festival this
week. The objective of the debate is to analyse cinema's
contribution to the awareness-raising efforts needed to
prevent and combat sexual violence. The world of film
offers two advantages: firstly, the medium of film helps
to shed light on a topic otherwise confined by taboos,
and secondly, cinema stars can themselves be precious
role models for campaigning purposes, inciting people to
take the necessary action. Several film directors and
actors will share their views on this issue.
The debate will take place on 9 September at the Hotel
Excelsior, Lido di Venezia, from 15.00 to 17.00
