27.10.2011 - The ONE in FIVE Campaign awareness-raising material has been listed
as a best practice example in the newly published online database for the protection
of children against sexual abuse set up by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
The children’s book “Kiko and the Hand” has been identified as a remarkable example of
good practice in preventing child sexual abuses, as it teaches children in simple terms
what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate touching.
The online database has been launched during a press event organised at the European
Parliament in Brussels and was presented by Madi Sharma, a member of the employers’ group
at the EESC.
Developed in collaboration with NGOs and public services in the member states, the database
collects 40 examples from various countries in Europe.
This initiative aims to encourage best practices in the field of prevention and protection
of children against sexual abuse.
The ONE in FIVE Campaign was introduced to journalists attending the press event by
Tiina-Maria Levamo, Programme Advisor of the Council of Europe Programme “Building a
Europe for and with children”.
