Professor Petros Stangos, member of the European Committee of Social Rights, was among the invitees at an exchange of views organised by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament in Brussels on 29 May 2017. The topic of the exchange was the Greek labour market reforms and the negotiations under the second review of Greece’s economic adjustment programme. In its intervention, Professor Stangos provided testimony on the Charter’s guarantee of labour rights and in particular on the several collective complaints brought before the Committee concerning labour market reform in Greece. Among the invitees were also Declan Costello, Chief Negotiator, DG ECFIN, European Commission, Heinz Koller, ILO Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia and Yannis Panagopolous, President of the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE).
In this respect, it may be noted that the Greek National Commission for Human Rights has recently issued an urgent Statement on labour and social security rights referring inter alia to the European Social Charter.
