Court opens multilingual Twitter account for news on case-law publications and translations

The European Court of Human Rights has today launched a multilingual Twitter account (ECHRPublication) reserved for news on case-law publications, translations and the HUDOC case-law database.

Registrar Erik Fribergh stated: “Over recent years the Court has stepped up its efforts to improve the understanding of the Court’s case-law especially in States where neither English nor French is well understood. With this account, and by addressing them in their own language, the Registry wishes to further assist legal professionals, public officials and NGOs in keeping abreast of developments in this area.”

Since the Court launched its program “Bringing the Convention closer to home” in 2012, over 15,000 case-law translations have been published in HUDOC, representing nearly 30 languages. Additionally, the Court has teamed up with various partners wishing to translate its case-law guides, handbooks and factsheets. These translations are also published on the Court’s Internet site.

The Court has a Twitter account reserved for press releases (ECHRPress). Tweets from that account
are mainly in English and French.

Albania became member of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995. Following its accession, a Council of Europe presence headed by the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe was established in Albania, and succeeded, in June 2003, by the establishment of the Information Office of the Council of Europe. Since January 2011, a Council of Europe Office in Tirana is set up as a new institutional form of co-operation.

As representative of the Secretary General in Albania, the Office works to promote the Council of Europe values and standards pertaining to human rights, rule of law and democracy. It facilitates the effective co-operation between the various Council of Europe bodies located in its Headquarters in Strasbourg and the domestic and international partner institutions in Albania.

The work of the Council of Europe in Albania is dedicated to assisting the Albanian authorities to continue bringing the Albanian legislation, its institutional practices and policies fully in line with its obligations stemming from its Council of Europe membership.
