Denial of adequate housing conditions to Roma in Greece <25 May 2010> The decision of the European Committee of Social Rights with regard to International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights (INTERIGHTS) v. Greece (Collective Complaint No. 49/2008) became public today. In its decision, the Committee found the situation in Greece to be in breach of the obligation to provide adequate housing laid down in Article 16 of the European Social Charter. The decision was based on evidence that a significant number of Roma continue to live in settlements which fail to meet minimum standards and that Roma continue to be forcibly evicted without legal remedies being sufficiently accessible to them.
