Workshops on ethics in mediation and family mediation organised in Montenegro

Two workshops for mediators were organised in Podgorica on 20 and 24 May 2021 to examine ethics in mediation in Montenegro, in line with the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) Guidelines for a better implementation of the Recommendation Rec (98)1 on family mediation and the EU Mediation Directive.

The workshop gathered representatives of the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution and members of the Association of Mediators of Montenegro. With support of Council of Europe consultants from Slovenia and Croatia, the participants explored the ethical framework of mediation, focusing on how to apply key ethical principles and best practices in family mediation process, including through the implementation of the Code of Ethics of Mediators which was adopted under the action “Accountability and professionalism in the judicial system of Montenegro" in 2020. During the workshop, several recommendations were formulated regarding family mediation in Montenegro, which are expected to be pursued by the mediators in their further work.

The workshops were organised in co-operation with the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution of Montenegro, under the action "Accountability and professionalism in the judicial system of Montenegro" which is part of the joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022."
