In the margins of its plenary session, the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) held an exchange of views with Javier Palummo, Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
The exchange provided an opportunity to discuss common challenges, share perspectives and explore ways to strengthen cooperation in ensuring that social rights are effectively guaranteed for all.
The discussions focused on opportunities to deepen cooperation between the ECSR and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, particularly in addressing shared challenges in the protection of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.
The discussions explored the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable groups, including its consequences for health, poverty and existing social inequalities. The exchange emphasised the need for a human rights-based approach to climate action and social policies, ensuring that those most affected are protected and that social justice remains central to the response.
The exchange reaffirmed the importance of international and interregional cooperation in strengthening the protection of social rights, addressing poverty and inequalities, and ensuring that economic and environmental policies are guided by human rights, dignity and social justice.
