The European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) held its 106th plenary meeting on 2-4 June 2026 in hybrid format.
The CDCJ examined and adopted the First Report on the thematic review on the implementation of selected aspects of the Council of Europe Plan of Action on Strengthening Judicial Independence and Impartiality (Sofia Action Plan) with a focus on the career and training of judges. In connection with this report, it also held an exchange of views with the Vice-President of the Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE), Judge Wiggo Storhaug Larssen.
The CDCJ also continued its work on the draft recommendation on the rights of donor-conceived persons to know their origins as well as on the draft revised recommendation on the nationality of children as a means to end child statelessness, with a view to providing guidance to the drafting subordinate bodies.
A tour de table on progress in member states of the signature or ratification process of the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer (CETS No. 226), the Luxembourg Convention, was undertaken. The CDCJ welcomed that 31 member states have already signed the convention.
A joint session took place with the Steering Committee on the Rights of the Child (CDENF) and the European Committee on Crime Problems (CDPC) on the thematic review of the Guidelines on child-friendly justice.
The CDCJ pursued its reflection process on possible activities for its next terms of reference (2028-2031) with a view to consolidate its proposals at its next plenary meeting in November.
Finally, the CDCJ revised its working methods with the aim of making them more efficient and agile.
