Training of Trainers on judicial review of corruption related crimes

On 29-30 April 2017 High School of Justice trainers went through a Training of Trainers on judicial review of corruption related crimes. The training was conducted by Mr. Paul Garlick, Council of Europe consultant. It followed- up on the joint scoping exercise completed in February.

As a result of the training, judges-trainers of the High School of Justice acquired and improved their knowledge of the applicable international legal framework, corporate liability,  admissibility of evidence involving undercover agents, provocation of the crime and its legal consequences.  In the words of one of participants "Going through the international case studies and European practices with an experienced international expert is very useful for us – trainers, in view of establishing the court practice in respect of these matters in Georgia”.

The next step in the training process is the pilot training to be delivered by trainees on 18-19 May 2017.

As a result of this training planning cycle, the High School of Justice will be able to offer the in-service training on court review of corruption related cases in the framework of its in-service training programme for judges.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia”. This Project is funded by voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Norway, Slovakia and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
