Challenges on the way to strengthening electoral jurisprudence and possible ways of dealing with them were discussed at a high-level seminar in Tbilisi, Georgia

On 29 November, Georgian policy and law makers, members of the Central Election Commission, representatives of political parties, judiciary, international community and civil society discussed practical steps necessary for full alignment of the Georgian legal framework and practices with international standards on election dispute resolution.

Representatives from governmental agencies, judiciary, political party representatives, international community and civil society, members of the Central Election Commission discussed international standards and good practices on election dispute resolution, obstacles on the way of strengthening electoral jurisprudence and their possible solutions, challenges that Georgian administration and the judiciary face on the way of improvement of the quality of decisions on electoral matters.

The Council of Europe Election Dispute Resolution Toolkit, aimed at demonstrating good practices on election dispute resolution and developed in the framework of the Project, was presented to electoral stakeholders towards the end of the seminar. The Toolkit serves as a methodological guideline for electoral stakeholders from Council of Europe member states, providing them with examples of good practices.

The seminar was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Reform of the electoral practices in Georgia” and the Venice Commission.
