Improving the quality of investigation of crimes committed on discriminatory grounds

A two-day training on the investigation of crimes committed on discriminatory grounds was held on 6-7 May for the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The event aimed at discussing the main challenges ineffective investigation of crimes committed on discriminatory grounds and the possible ways to improve existing practices.

Around 30 participants got familiarized with international and national standards of investigation of hate crimes and bias-motivated crimes, different forms of discrimination, iinternational and regional instruments on investigating prosecuting and sentencing hate crimes.

The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe co-operation project “Fighting Discrimination, Hate Crime and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is conducted with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP) under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia.
