Training on Landmark Case-Law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) for judges and Supreme Court staff

On 25 - 26 May 2017 Council of Europe (CoE), within the EU funded project, with involvement of international and national consultants organized a two-day training for judges and staff of analytical department of the Supreme Court on Landmark Case-Law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The aim of the training was to give a large and comprehensive overview to judges and Supreme Court staff members about the ECHR articles, and foremost about ECtHR decisions concerning Georgia in all the areas covered by the Convention. Hence, up to twenty participants were introduced to Georgia’s experience before the ECtHR since the ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights in 1999 and examined the most important Georgian case law mainly regarding human conditions in prisons, lawfulness of detention, access to justice and to a fair trial, without any discrimination.

The event was organized in the framework of the European Union – Council of Europe joint project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European standards”, being implemented under the EU-CoE Partnership for Good Governance.
