Strengthening the Capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia: Pilot Trainings on Advanced Court Management for Court Managers and Presidents and on Management and Leadership for Judges

On 22-25 September 2017 in Borjomi, the trainers of the High School of Justice of Georgia delivered two trainings on Advanced Court Management for Court Managers and Presidents; and on Management and Leadership for Judges. The training module was a follow-up of the Training of Trainers organized in June. The pilot training was also observed by two international experts Mr Bert Maan and Ms Hermine Masmeyer.

Overall, 15 court managers and 13 judges have been trained during the 4 days. Participants acquired and improved their skills in several areas including the management of human resources, management of time and caseload as well as leadership and managerial qualities. During the training the participants were able to identify management-related issues they face during their daily work and trainers responded by addressing those issues during the event.

As one of the trainers, Mr Aleksandre Tsuladze noted, ‘the training was designed to help court managers overcome difficulties related to interaction between managers and employees, distribution of assignments, and managing a caseload. Based on the active involvement of participants, I am confident they will be able to use what we have taught them in their daily work.’

As an outcome, the High School of Justice will be able to independently deliver the in-service training on court management and leadership for acting judges and court managers within the framework of its internal catalogue of available trainings.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia”. This Project is funded by voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, The Slovak Republic and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
