Representatives of the MIA enhance their knowledge on policing on hate crime against LGBTI persons

The Council of Europe in co-operation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted training for the middle management of the Ministry on policing on hate crime against LGBTI persons. The participants from the capital and the regions of Georgia attended the course.

The activity included a range of topics, such as psychological aspects of discrimination, the European Court of Human Rights case law on the obligations of national authorities to investigate hate crimes and difficulties in investigating crimes committed on the grounds of discrimination.

As a result of the training, participants can better identify the specific needs, including the psychological and legal aspects, of those affected by hate crimes, which will increase the effectiveness of their work.

The event was a part of series of trainings for the representatives of the Ministry to strengthen their capacity and knowledge on the prohibition of discrimination, hate speech and crimes committed on discriminatory grounds.

This activity was conducted in the framework of the co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
