Résumé
La langue et les autres modes de communication jouent un rôle essentiel dans l’apprentissage de matières scolaires autres que la langue comme matière. Les apprenants des autres matières ont de nombreuses attentes implicites quant à leurs compétences communicationnelles, qui sont partie intégrante de l’apprentissage. Ils sont donc justifiés à ce que les compétences requises leur soient enseignées, de même qu’est justifiée la demande qui leur est faite de mettre en œuvre ces compétences dans les diverses matières, s’ils entendent réussir. Les compétences de communication usuelles acquises au quotidien ne suffisent pas et le langage « académique » doit être enseigné et appris de manière délibérée. D’autres compétences sémiotiques sont également nécessaires dans la mesure où les matières sont enseignées à l’aide, par exemple, de graphiques ou de tableaux de statistiques. Une aide spécifique doit être apportée à certains groupes d’apprenants qui ne bénéficient pas du soutien nécessaire dans leur entourage pour acquérir les compétences langagières usuelles et encore moins celles des formes langagières académiques de scolarisation. Cela a des implications pour l’orientation et l’élaboration des curricula ainsi que pour les méthodes d’enseignement, et en particulier quant à la coopération interne et à une vision holistique de l’apprentissage des langues en contexte scolaire.

Résumé
Toute construction de connaissances en contexte scolaire, quelles que soient les disciplines considérées, passe par un travail langagier. Le présent texte vise à proposer une démarche générale permettant de caractériser par des catégories descriptives transversales différents niveaux de spécification de ces dimensions langagières. Il s’agit de décrire le cheminement qui, à partir d’unités d’analyse d’usages effectifs aboutit à l’identification de formes et fonctionnements linguistiques appropriés à ces usages. Il s’adresse aux auteurs de curriculums et de manuels, aux concepteurs de tests, mais aussi aux enseignants et notamment à ceux des matières parfois dites bien à tort « non linguistiques » afin d’attirer l’attention de ces derniers sur les composantes langagières du travail de leur discipline. Il concerne aussi les formateurs d’enseignants, en particulier ceux qui ont la charge des enseignements autres que de langue comme matière.

Ce texte présente une démarche qui permet de créer des programmes d’enseignement d’histoire en tenant compte explicitement des dimensions discursives et linguistiques de cette matière. Elle permet, par étapes successives, auxquelles correspondent des inventaires de référence, de passer du niveau des finalités éducatives de tels enseignements à l’identification d’éléments linguistiques particulièrement importants à systématiser dans la classe pour gérer les formes de discours correspondantes. Cette démarche, proposée à la discussion, est conçue pour être indépendante des langues concernées. Elle est éventuellement adaptable à d’autres disciplines.

Ce texte présente une démarche destinée à faciliter l’élaboration de programmes d’enseignement de disciplines scientifiques (biologie, physique et chimie) abordant explicitement les dimensions discursives et linguistiques de ces matières. Par étapes successives, auxquelles correspondent des inventaires de référence, la démarche passe du niveau des finalités éducatives de l’enseignement scientifique à l’identification d’éléments linguistiques particulièrement importants à systématiser en classe pour gérer les formes de discours correspondantes.

Ce document présente une démarche qui aidera les personnes chargées d’élaborer des programmes d’enseignement et d’apprentissage des mathématiques à tenir explicitement compte des dimensions discursives et linguistiques de cette matière. Il reprend et adapte surtout les idées et méthodes définies par Beacco (2010) pour l’histoire, par Vollmer (2010) pour les sciences et par Pieper (2011) pour la littérature. Par étapes successives, auxquelles correspondent des inventaires de référence, il passe des finalités éducatives de l’enseignement des mathématiques à l’identification d’éléments linguistiques particulièrement importants à systématiser en classe pour aboutir à la maîtrise des formes de discours correspondantes.

La maîtrise de la langue de scolarisation est essentielle pour développer chez les élèves les compétences nécessaires à la réussite scolaire et à la réflexion critique. Elle est fondamentale pour la participation à nos sociétés démocratiques, pour l’inclusion et la cohésion sociales.
Ce Guide est un document politique et un instrument de travail qui prône la convergence et la cohérence entre les dimensions linguistiques des différentes matières scolaires. Il propose des mesures pour rendre explicites – dans les programmes, le matériel pédagogique et la formation des enseignants – les normes et les compétences linguistiques que les élèves doivent maîtriser pour chaque discipline scolaire. Il mentionne également des modalités pédagogiques qui devraient permettre à tous les élèves, en particulier aux plus vulnérables, de participer à des expériences diversifiées d’apprentissage des langues, en vue de développer leurs capacités cognitives et linguistiques.
