On June 24, 2026, in Gdansk, the Council of Europe hosted a Side event “Relevance of the Council of Europe Standards Compliance for the Reconstruction of Ukraine” at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) 2026.

The session underscored the importance of the Council of Europe standards, including those related to right to property, right to effective remedy and functioning judiciary, action against corruption, AI standards, cybercrime prevention and environmental protection for ensuring Ukraine’s sustainable recovery and fostering a business-friendly climate.

Panellists discussed how integrating these standards with practical tools for corporate accountability, capacity building and economic renewal could play a crucial role in Ukraine’s reconstruction by fostering a competitive and rights-based environment. This is true at national as well as local level.

The panel featured Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Oleksandr Karasevych, State Secretary, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Matthew Jordan-Tank, Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Policy & Project Preparation in EBRD. The discussion was moderated by Gianluca Esposito, Council of Europe Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law.

The event was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Advancing Ukraine’s Recovery through Responsible Investment”, implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” 2023-2026
