Back Training of trainers on Election Law and Election Dispute Resolution

Preparatory workshop for pilot trainings
Training of trainers on Election Law and Election Dispute Resolution

Under the previous electoral assistance project, a permanent training course on Election Law and Election Dispute Resolution for Georgian common court judges was introduced at the High School of Justice, in cooperation with ISFED (International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy). A training module and pertinent training materials were developed, 6 judges from the Tbilisi City Court and the Tbilisi Court of Appeals successfully completed the first set of training of trainers. The implementation of the training course includes conducting training of trainers for 6 judges and pilot trainings for up to 60 judges adjudicating election disputes, covering Tbilisi, eastern and western Georgia.

Considering the breadth of scale of issues that are to be introduced to judges, another set of training of trainers was organised on February 16. Georgian experts, judges at the Supreme Court of Georgia and election and legal experts from ISFED, facilitated thematic discussions to agree on common approaches about existing electoral regulations and practices for future trainings. The training module and materials were finalised, thematic sessions were distributed among future trainers. Training of trainers participants, judges, will conduct a pilot training in March.

The training of trainers was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Supporting Transparency, Inclusiveness and Integrity of Electoral Practice and Process in Georgia”.
