Ukrainian radio aired an episode of the programme ‘Today. This Afternoon’, where the new interactive course ‘Elections in simple terms’ was discussed

‘Elections in simple terms’ is an interactive online training course about the election process, launched on 21 September 2020 as part of the educational online platform ‘CEC: Prosvita’ developed by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine in cooperation and with the support of the Council of Europe*. ‘UA: Ukrainian Radio’ was also actively engaged in the process of production of this online course.

During the broadcast of Today. This Afternoon on UA:Ukrainian radio the host Roman Kolyada discussed the highlights of the course ‘Elections in simple terms’ with the guests in the studio:

  • Dmytro Khorkin, host of the morning show ‘Today. This Morning’, the author and the host of the program ‘Donbass.ua’, general producer of the ‘UA: Ukrainian Radio’
  • Inna Zubar, project manager of the Council of Europe project “Supporting the transparency, inclusiveness and integrity of electoral practice in Ukraine” *;
  • Andriy Hevko, member of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, who coordinates the organization, preparation and implementation of the activities to improve voters’ awareness, legal culture and accountability.

The online course ‘Elections in simple terms’ is designed to inform citizens about the history of elections, basic principles and electoral standards, about different types of electoral systems and procedures in Ukraine and in other countries. The course is especially relevant on the eve of the local elections scheduled in Ukraine for 25 October 2020. It is important that before the E-day voters become fully aware and understand how the new electoral system works and what democratic practices form the basis for fair and transparent elections. For this purpose, the course was developed by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, the Council of Europe, election law specialists, creative specialists from the Platforma laboratory, the online studio EdEra, UA: Ukrainian Radio as well as the BigBangers marketing agency.

Inna Zubar, manager of the Council of Europe project ‘Supporting the transparency, inclusiveness and integrity of electoral practice in Ukraine’, noted that another online course about local elections will be available soon on the ‘CEC: Prosvita’ platform: “What we have now on the CEC: Prosvita platform is just the beginning, as it is a part of a large-scale educational project. Starting from September, the online basic course ‘Elections in simple terms’ is available for users. Within a month, we are planning to launch a specialized advanced level course about local elections".


*“Supporting the transparency, inclusiveness and integrity of electoral practice in Ukraine” is the Council of Europe project in Ukraine that is aimed at enhancing the political and legal culture of voters, the ability of public authorities to organize and conduct elections in line with European electoral standards and good practices, as well as strengthening the capacity of women, young voters, national minorities to actively participate in political and public decision-making processes.
